You've probably noticed that the title is based on that of the film Dead Poets Society. It's one of my favorite films and it also provides the grounds of what I want to accomplish here. In the film, the main characters were striving to find a life of passion in their monotonous world. This isn't to say that gaming or film has become monotonous, but that they need a little more passion. I'm going to try to do my part and give them just that.
This blog is going to cover both gaming and film, but it'll have a bit more emphasis on gaming. I have some pretty unique views on how both should be reviewed. It's probably best put that my inspirations are loosely Giantbomb.com and the all-powerful Yahtzee. For now, my grading system is going to basically be Giantbomb's. I find it the best right now, but that may change in time if this blog takes off.
I'll have a review up soon so you sample my writing. It's probably going to be Fable 2 or Gears of War 2. I also have a tendency to review older games, which I feel casts light on games with no hype. Hype is a dangerous thing and I'll try to keep it out of my blog.
I'm looking into having some other people write here. For now, I can only cover 360 games and a limited number of PC and Wii games. I'll try to get as much in as I can, but I'll definitely defer you to another review of a hugely-hyped game.
Anyway, my name is W.A. Julian and this is Dead Critics Society.
